What is Beaver Scouting?

Beaver Scouts belong to the first and youngest section in the Scouting family at 1st Knowle scouts. Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others.

We organise at least one sleepover a year. These are often the first time a young person spends a night away from home. They normally take place at our Scout hut.

Who can be a Beaver?

Any young person aged between 5 years 9 months and 8 years can be a Beaver. Membership of Scouting UK is voluntary and is open to any person, regardless of faith, race, culture, nationality or any other circumstance, provided they are able to understand and willing to make or work towards making the Promise.

Beavers have a choice of two promises:
“I promise that I will do my best to be kind and helpful and to love God”
or
"I promise to do my best to be kind and helpful and to love our world"

How often do they meet?

Our Beaver Colony meet regularly, usually once a week during school terms from 5:45 till 7:00pm. There are often other opportunities for Beavers to take part in special activities and events throughout the year.

What do Beavers need?

For the first few meetings your child needs nothing to experience the fun of being a Beaver. When it comes time for your child to become a member of Scouting UK then they will only need the turquoise sweatshirt, available from the most school uniform shops.  However, there is a range of clothing to choose from, including activity trousers and Beaver t-shirts although most do not worry about these.

Waiting List

If you would like to add your child’s name to the waiting list please go to the contacts page. If you have already registered your child’s name and wish to check the current status, please also use the contacts page with your child’s name and date of birth.

Marches

We have 2 marches every year.  It is expected that all Beavers take part in the Remembrance Parade which occurs on the second Sunday of November.  We march from the Royal Legion down Knowle high street - which is always packed with onlookers.

St Georges Day - This takes place on a Sunday near the 23rd April - normally nice weather and this time we march from St Johns Close.
